How the London salary guide works
Choose a job role, the industry you work in (or want to work in), and your years of relevant experience. The tool starts from a typical London entry-level pay band for that role, then scales it up in two steps: an experience multiplier (salaries typically rise steadily from entry-level through to senior and lead-level roles) and an industry multiplier (sectors like finance, banking and technology tend to pay a premium over sectors like the public sector, hospitality and the non-profit sector for a comparable job title).
The result is a low, typical (median) and high estimate — a ballpark range rather than a single number, since real pay varies by employer, qualifications, team and negotiation. Figures are base salary only and don't include bonuses, commission, equity or benefits.
Frequently asked questions
Where do these salary ranges come from?
Each role starts from a typical London entry-level pay band, scaled by an experience multiplier and an industry multiplier. These are illustrative planning estimates, not figures pulled from live job postings.
Is this the same as an official salary survey?
No. It's a general-interest estimator for ballpark planning, not a substitute for ONS or industry-specific salary survey data. Actual pay varies a lot by employer, team, qualifications and negotiation.
Does this include bonuses or benefits?
No — the range is base salary only. Bonuses, commission, equity, pensions and other benefits are not included and can add significantly to total compensation in some roles and industries.
Why does the same job pay differently by industry?
Industries compete for talent differently — sectors like finance and technology often pay a premium for the same job title compared with the public sector, hospitality or the non-profit sector.
